When I came to Play City, they were completely offline; meaning they only sold their services when their business was open and in person. I immediately switched Point of Sale (POS) providers to an online provider; so that they could also accept payments online and over the phone. I also added an online scheduler that integrated with this POS, so they could schedule and collect payments in advance for Open Play sessions and Classes, as well as deposits for Birthday Parties, Rentals and Camps – all online. Approximately, a quarter of their sales are now being generated online.
I introduced the rental of our classroom for outside teachers, as well as recently hired teachers to teach classes of our own.
I created marketing materials and updated their website to better reflect their offerings. I took over their mailing list and social media accounts, and remain the main contact for their customers. I manage their review sites, as well as reply to customers who email us or google text message us with questions.
I added a café, where we serve primarily organic, non-GMO verified food, snacks and drinks; as well as added a BYOF and BYOB amenity with a fee for customers who want to carry in. We also include many items for those with dietary restrictions.
I created basic marketing materials to publicize these offerings.
I expanded on their birthday party offerings and sold roughly 80 birthday parties, totaling 62K in sales.
Mostly, I offered out-of-the-box ideas that would allow them to stand out from their competitors and introduced new streams of income, such as running a campaign on Groupon (521 redemptions and 7K in sales), offering Open Play on KidPass (800 reservations and $21K in sales) and introducing community fundraisers, as well as community playgroups.
I brought in children’s book authors for storytime readings and book signings, and also special events and parties. Hosted pop-up markets with food entrepreneurs and clothing companies.
We built strong relationships with local area photographers and have since established a strategic partnership with Newport Babies Photography. She provides photographs of our venue and offerings.
I added feel good community incentives such as our free open play and meals for families affected by the shutdown.
I am not a graphic designer but I did work with a graphic designer to create some fliers for program offerings such as direct mailers, classes and calendars for the classes, as well as camps. These designs are all editable, so that we can change the information but keep the layout and design.
I review all of their transactions and run monthly sales reports. I train all new employees on back end operations. I order all supplies for birthday parties, as well a promotional materials and loot for favors. I run payroll when necessary and am an authorized signer on all accounts.
I feel like the list can go on, I have offered so much assistance and while I love it here at Play City, my daughter’s father and my ex-husband owns it; so I would like to take on new clients and slowly phase myself out working for my former spouse. He is happy to keep me on and use my services until I can find the perfect opportunity.
