When I came to Play City, they were completely offline; so they only sold their services when their business was open and in person. I immediately switched Point of Sale (POS) providers to an online provider; so that they could accept payments online and over the phone. I also added an online scheduler that integrated with this POS, so that they could accept payments in advance for scheduled activities such as open play and classes, recurring payments for memberships, virtual passes and packages, and deposits for birthday parties, rentals and camps – all online. Approximately, a quarter of their sales are now being generated online.
I created basic marketing materials to showcase their offerings.
I introduced the rental of our party room to outside teachers as a classroom, which added an additional stream of income for the business.
I added a café, where we serve primarily organic, non-GMO verified food, snacks and drinks; as well as added BYOF and BYOB amenities for a fee; for customers who want to carry in. We also include many items for those with dietary restrictions.
Mostly, I offered out-of-the-box ideas that would allow them to stand out from their competitors and introduced new streams of income, such as running a campaign on Groupon (521 redemptions and 7K in sales), offering Open Play on KidPass (960 reservations and $24K in sales) and introducing community fundraisers, as well as playgroups.
I brought in children’s book authors for storytime and book signings, and also hosted pop-up markets with food entrepreneurs and clothing companies, and cool events for parents.
We built a strong relationships with a local photographer who provides photographs of our venue, for our website and social media use.
I added feel good community incentives such as our free open play and meals for families affected by the government shutdown of 2019 and donated open play to local families affected by tragedy.
I review all of their transactions and run monthly sales reports. I train all new employees on back-end operations. I order all supplies for birthday parties, as well a promotional materials and loot for favors.
I feel like the list can go on, I have offered so much assistance and while I love it here, my daughter’s father and my ex-husband owns it; so I would like to slowly phase myself out working for my former spouse. He is happy to keep me on and to use my services until I can find the perfect job opportunity.
We are currently in the process of adding additional food to our café (just added a pizza oven), activity boxes (subscription model), expanding with a playtoy showroom – where all toys will be available for purchase.
